This podcast provides an authentic take on Black life in predominantly white spaces. Join hosts Adell Coleman, Anna DeShawn, and guests for raw conversations, laughs, and head nods as we share our perspectives on everything from challenges, and triumphs to unique experiences of navigating a world that often fails to recognize the Black experience.
Our guests are diverse, bringing their personal perspectives to each conversation. We invite you to nod along with us, as we share our stories and offer insight into the Black experience in predominantly white spaces.
In season one we tackle Black Life at A PWI (Predominantly White Institution). We take an in-depth yet entertaining look into the college experience of black students who attended PWIs. Topics range from the initial culture shock to Greek life, to random Saturday night adventures at the most unexpected places! In a world that's not always relatable, The Head Nod connects us all!

Adell Coleman

Adell Coleman's career spans over 16 years, beginning as a producer and host of “2KNation” station on WPFW 89.3 at the age of 15. This early start paved the way for her to earn a degree in Mass Communications from Penn State University. She then moved back to her hometown of Washington DC to join the SiriusXM team. During her time at SiriusXM, Adell worked alongside DCP Entertainment’s Founder and CEO Chris Colbert, producing a number of shows and specials, and taking over as Executive Producer of SiriusXM’s “Urban View” channel.
Throughout her career, she has produced a number of high-profile broadcasts, winning numerous accolades. Adell has worked with Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, actor/author Hill Harper, and inspirational speaker, author and television personality Iyanla Vanzant and Congresswoman Adell has received commendations from the Alliance for Women in Media, The National Association of Black Journalists, New York Festivals, Webby Awards, as well as her alma mater Penn State University.
She also hosts the podcast Say Their Name which covers stories from families who have lost someone due to negative police encounters. She also hosts The Head Nod, a podcast dedicated to the importance of sharing Black experiences in predominantly white space. Adell enjoys writing as she curates a few newsletters. Anna DeShawn

Anna, pronouns anything respectful, is a multi-award and Ambie award winning podcast producer and host. She is also a Chicago-born social entrepreneur who builds streaming platforms which center & celebrate BIPOC & QTPOC creatives. Media has always been her passion and in 2009 she turned that passion into a reality when she founded E3 Radio, an online radio station playing Queer music & reporting on Queer news with an intersectional lens. She expanded her media reach when she co-founded The Qube, a podcast production company and curated platform to discover the best music & podcasts by BIPOC & QTPOC creatives. Most recently, Anna was announced as part of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame 2023 induction cohort. Anna is determined to ride media into its next era by utilizing digital media streams to tell the stories and play the music that deserves to be heard.
